Reflections "New & Old"
This photo was shot around the Stephansplatz in central Vienna. The Stephansplatz square is home to the Stephansdome (St. Stephan's Cathedral) which was consecrated in 1147 and built over the next 400 years. I wanted to capture the sense of history as it was reflected in the modern glass windows of a building on the north-east side of the square. Both history and modernity coexist so effortlessly in Vienna - there are no jagged lines between them.
Prague Old Town I
Walking through Prague on a sunny summer day in 2016, I could not stop noticing the stone "bridges" between the old buildings. They reminded me so much of the Winnipeg's modern downtown with its walkways high above the pedestrians and the street buzz below. I guess people through the ages were trying to connect with their neighbors and elevate themselves above the crowds - I wonder if they talked about "declining downtowns" in those days…
Musicians
Prague is such a vibrant, exciting and busy city - it is full of tourists and, of course, of buskers and musicians who entertain them. These clarinet and banjo players were a part of a four-piece Dixieland group performing in the Staroměstské náměstí (the Old Town Square) near the famous 600-year-old Astronomical Clock in the heart of Prague. They were so alive, so dynamic, so engaging… I spent an hour listening to them almost forgetting to take a picture!
